October 24, 2018The Latest in BrushingNolan ThiessenThe 2015-2016 curling season saw a revolution in brushing. Athletes were introduced to a new fabric that allowed them to “steer” a rock out of the throwers hand to the target spot in the house depending on where they “scratched” the ice.

Then in 2016-2017 Curling Canada introduced a sweeping moratorium banning the new product from competitive play.

So – where are we now? What is the correct approach to helping our athletes develop brushing skills.

Nolan Thiessen shares his knowledge as a champion front end athlete and performance consultant with Curling Canada’s National Team program as it relates to what is known now about brushing, Nolan is a three time Brier Winner and 2010 World Men’s Champion. Nolan placed 4th in 2014 and won bronze in 2015 at the World Men’s Curling Championships with Kevin Koe and John Morris respectively.
