The Next Generation Program is the first phase of our overall high performance program.
About the Next Generation Program
The goal of the Ontario Curling Council (OCC) Next Generation Program is to support the implementation of Curling Canada’s Podium Pathway, a high performance development system, in Ontario. It is intended to ensure a progressive stream of athletes and coaches are being trained to standards required to win Olympic and World Championships. Our focus is on athletes who are 5-8 years away from National Team Program entry.
We are endeavoring to create a national best practice program for athletes in the Training to Train/Training to Compete stages of development.
Teams will be part of a season long program (October 1, 2015-March 31, 2016) where they will receive intensive training, assessment and support from Provincial and National Team Program coaches. Teams will be assigned a “Program Performance Consultant” who will function as the team’s liaison for the program. Teams will undergo a thorough, gap analysis, annual plan design/consultation, technical support for delivery & brushing, strategy and tactics. Teams will work with IST (sports physicians, mental performance trainers, nutritionists, strength and conditioning coaches). Teams will have access to equipment such as instrumented brushes, wireless mics, speed traps, etc… Teams will receive valuable competitive event feedback and scoreboard analysis. Team coaches will be mentored throughout the season and receive credit towards their Maintenance of Certification. Programs will be individualized for each team – to ensure they are receiving what they need to advance their development.
Teams and/or individuals may have an opportunity for future program inclusion based on performance within the program.
