Golden Hawks HPC acquires PT-2 smart brooms

The Golden Hawks HPC is very pleased to announce that we have acquired PT-2 Smart Brooms from Canadian Curling Tools for use in technical sessions on brushing.

The PT-2 Smart Broom is a standard Balance Plus curling broom with a 1-1/8 inch carbon-fibre handle and an Equalizer (EQ) brush head. In addition, the PT-2 features an on-board touchscreen display and contains both an accelerometer and load sensors to capture both the stroke rate and brush pressure applied to the ice surface while brushing.

When combined with video recording of an athlete’s technique while brushing:

the combination of the PT-2 Smart Broom and video analysis gives an overall picture of an athlete’s performance that can be compared against other attempts, or attempts of their teammates. Data from the PT-2 provides essential feedback to the athlete that can help to pinpoint issues with brushing technique, such as foot position, hand position, angle of attack, balance, and issues with fitness.

Data from the Smart Broom can also be downloaded from the broom to a laptop computer (or any device with a USB port) so that athletes can take away the aspects of their performance with them for subsequent analysis and comparison at a later date.

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Ryan Harnden of Team Brad Jacobs tries the PT-2 smart broom at the Ontario Own the Podium talent identification camp in March 2014.
